Engineered Stone Ban in Effect: What this means for you
In an effort to combat the rising levels of Silicosis (a serious, irreversible lung disease) in Australian tradies, the Australian government has officially banned the use of Engineered Stone across Australia.
Engineered stone has been found to cause high rates of Silicosis when it is crushed, sawn and cut due to releasing high amounts of silica dust. This is why from July 1st, it has been officially banned under threat of significant fines and prosecution.
So what does this mean for your business? It is now illegal to manufacture, supply, process or install engineered stone benchtops, panels and slabs, however, you are permitted to partake in the modification or removal of previously installed engineered stone surfaces. If you need to find out more about the ban and how it could affect your business, please check out the Safe Work Australia page.
Please ensure if you are taking on this work that you and your team abide by all the safety regulations and prevent as much exposure to silica dust in this process as possible. Make sure to make use of Trak's SWMS feature to keep your team up to date on the correct handling and removal procedures.
