Lead Generation for Tradies

Business Tips & Advice
January 10, 2021

As a tradie, you could provide the best service, have the most knowledgeable team, be the cheapest and most efficient in the business and all this could result in nothing without new customers. No matter how solid your business foundation is, you still need to be practising good marketing techniques and spending time on improving your lead generation or you will find your business struggling to bring in new customers. Luckily, there are a few simple ways you can improve the amount of leads you generate so you can grow your business and offer your services to the widest audience possible.

Website

As most tradies are probably aware, a website is absolutely vital in running a business. Customers need a place where they can learn more about your company, find out if you’re the right fit for them and contact you. Your website will likely be the first point of contact for a potential customer after they have initially heard about your business.Studies have shown that 75% of consumers admit to making judgements on a company’s credibility based on the company’s website design. This means that it’s not enough just to simply have a website, it has to be a well designed, high functioning website. For your website to convert potential customers into paying leads, it has to impress.Ensure your website has every bit of information that a potential customer would need to know before ever speaking to you. You should also make sure that the website is easy to navigate, loads quickly and looks good. While there are many websites such as Squarespace and Wix that help with this process, hiring a professional web designer may be the way to go if you find yourself struggling to create one yourself. The cost of this will be minimal compared to the new leads you will find your company receiving.

Social Media

While having a website is essential for building credibility for your company, social media is just as important. It has been found that 21% of consumers are more likely to buy from a brand they can reach on social media. Having a social media platform allows customers to research your company and also allows you to reach out to new potential customers to generate leads. Social media profiles are often free to create so there’s no harm in trying it out and seeing how well it works for your business. The shareability aspect of posts on social media also allow it to be a great referral service. Ask family and friends to share your page or your posts and you may just get a few new leads. Basically, it will work like an online word-of-mouth referral system. Most social media platforms also offer a paid ads service. If you find you are gaining traction on Facebook or Twitter for example, you can easily put some money into sending out a paid ad campaign and watch that generate leads from a pre-selected target group.

Google Ads

Much like the paid ads on social media platforms, Google ads can be a quick way to generate new leads if you are willing to spend some money. For example, if your locksmith company is the first result people see when they google “locksmiths in my area”, you’re going to generate far more leads than the rest of the competition. The best part about Google Ads is that you can easily see how well you are tracking every step of the way. If you find the money you are spending on the ads isn’t reflecting how much business you are receiving from them, you can stop running them at any time. The key is experimenting with your ads and changing your tactics if something isn’t working.

On-Site and Vehicle Signage

While we tend to focus on new digital marketing methods to drum up new leads these days, often traditional methods can be just as, if not more, effective in generating leads. Two of the most prominent and effective ways of doing this are on-site signage and vehicle signage. On-site, large print signage is a clear way of making any passerby aware of your business. The best part about this method is that they can immediately see your work in action, making them aware of what you do and how good you are at doing it. These signs can also be packed up and taken to the next worksite. Just ensure that these signs are well designed, not too cluttered with wording and have a clear call to action (phone number, website address etc.) prominently displayed on them.Vehicle signage works much like on-site signage, except you are exposing thousands of new potential leads to your business while you’re on the roads everyday. Again, this must be well designed and have clear call to actions. Having a fleet of vehicles with the same signage will also go a long way to making your business look much more professional in the customer's eyes.

Direct Mail

While having a significant online presence is paramount to generating leads, you still want to be able to reach potential leads that don’t spend as much time online. Direct mail is an effective, relatively inexpensive way to reach this market. Direct mail can include a range of print media such as flyers, brochures, business cards and coupons. Having a tangible, easy to read piece of media can often build familiarity and trust with a potential customer. It’s also a great way to promote any new deals or information with your current customer base for repeat business. Looking for a way to manage all your new leads after practising these tips?
